Creating a Holistic Water Resource Management Framework: RFP Insights

Introduction to the RFP

On March 4, 2025, the Water Research Foundation Grants- WRF announced a request for proposals (RFP) aimed at balancing human and natural assets within a holistic water resource management framework. This initiative seeks to reconcile the competing needs of society and the environment by fostering resilient watershed health.

Project Objectives and Goals

The central objective of this project is the development of an effective watershed management framework that integrates human and natural land uses. This integration is crucial for overcoming the limitations of past methods that have focused on individual pollutants rather than a comprehensive systems approach. The project aims to establish watershed condition metrics that evaluate the health and functionality of both human and natural assets, thereby advancing our understanding of social-ecological systems.

Applicant Guidelines and Support for Water Research Foundation Grants

Interested applicants can request up to $200,000 in WRF funds for their proposals. It is essential for submissions to address the project’s objectives and demonstrate an understanding of the ecosystem-based management (EBM) approach. The RFP emphasizes the need for a user-friendly decision-support framework that can be adapted across various ecosystems and landscapes, ensuring flexibility and applicability in diverse settings.

Proposals are due by 3:00 PM Mountain Time on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Should any stakeholders require more information, they can contact project lead Lola Olabode, MPH, BCES, at lolabode@waterrf.org. For more detailed guidelines, please refer to the official document available here.
