Honnold Foundation Core Fund Applications Now Open:The Honnold Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for the 2024 Core Grant Cycle are now open. The foundation partners with marginalized communities worldwide to expand equitable solar energy access. Their belief in the transformative power of solar energy motivates them to provide unrestricted grant funding to organizations working towards social and economic equity.
While the funds are unrestricted, the foundation tends to select organizations that are directing funds towards specific solar energy projects or initiatives. To be eligible for a Core Grant, organizations must meet certain criteria. They should be community-based or have a clear community connection and hold charitable status or have a charitable or social impact mission in their country of origin.
The majority of the funding should be used for the construction or improvement of solar infrastructure, such as grid-tied solar systems, solar home systems, or solar water pumps. The organization should have identified a technical partner to develop or improve the solar infrastructure. The goal of the funding should be to increase social and economic equity for underserved communities and reduce environmental impact by minimizing the dependence on fossil fuels or other highly pollutive energy sources.
The Honnold Foundation is particularly interested in organizations led by and serving Indigenous and/or Black-majority communities. They also prioritize organizations with at least 50% of leadership positions held by womxn (staff and/or board members). However, organizations that do not meet this requirement can submit a written plan detailing how they plan to achieve 50% womxn leadership during their partnership with the foundation.
Organizations located in the Americas and island nations highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change are encouraged to apply. The application process consists of two steps: the Organization and Project Summary, which determines basic project eligibility, and the Full Grant Application, which provides additional details about the project and the organization’s past work in the community.
The deadline for the Organization and Project Summary is February 2, 2024, at 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). Eligible applicants will be invited to complete the Full Grant Application by March 1, 2024. Grant awards will be announced in June 2024.
