The World Health Organisation (WHO) is seeking a Technical Officer (Reproductive Health) to support the objectives of the Family Health, Gender and Life Course programme. The programme aims to address preventable maternal deaths and promote and protect sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as crucial components of overall development.

Programme Objectives

The 13th General Programme of Work (GPW 13) by WHO recognizes that access to SRHR can only be fully achieved through universal health coverage (UHC), promotion of better health and well-being, and meeting the needs of those living in humanitarian settings. The Technical Officer will focus on supporting countries to reduce preventable maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly from unsafe abortion.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Medical Officer, Maternal and Reproductive Health (MRH), and in coordination with relevant technical counterparts, the Technical Officer will carry out the following duties:

  1. Manage the programme within the office, including developing roadmaps and innovative strategies for implementation.
  2. Provide sustained technical support at the country level, including capacity building of health systems and delivering comprehensive services.
  3. Develop, implement, and monitor work plans and budgets to integrate reproductive and maternal health into countries’ healthcare and universal health coverage.
  4. Conduct monitoring and evaluation of programmes related to SRHR, providing technical recommendations and analysis.
  5. Lead resource mobilization efforts to support project implementation.
  6. Prepare timely technical and analytical reports on programme performance.
  7. Serve as a technical resource in providing expertise on sexual reproduction and reproductive health rights.
  8. Liaise and coordinate with national counterparts, technical departments, donors, and other UN partners to achieve project objectives.
  9. Mentor and supervise staff and consultants working on the programme.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
