About the THT Conservation Grant

The THT Conservation Grant, worth Rs. 1,00,00,000, is a funding opportunity provided by The Habitats Trust. This grant aims to support organizations that focus on addressing conservation challenges in India, with a particular emphasis on lesser-known species and critical habitats. The grant is designed to promote holistic conservation efforts and will be administered over a period of three years.

Eligibility Criteria

The THT Conservation Grant is open exclusively to organizations that meet certain criteria. Firstly, the organization must have completed a minimum of five years of functional existence. Additionally, it should have at least three years of experience in carrying out direct on-ground projects related to the conservation of India’s natural habitats and threatened species.

Furthermore, the average expenditure incurred by the organization over the last three years should be equal to or greater than INR 50 lakhs. The organization must also be a registered not-for-profit entity in India, such as a society, trust, section 8 company, or a registered institute under section 35(1)(ii) of the Income-tax Act, 1961. Registration under section 12ab of the Income-tax Act, 1961, and possession of an 80G certificate are also mandatory.

For institutes that do not have an 80G certificate, approval by the central government under section 35(1)(ii) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, will be considered. Additionally, the organization should possess registration documents, audited financials, tax certificates, bye-laws, FCRA (if applicable), and/or similar documents depending on the nature of the funding/donations it receives. Shortlisted organizations must be willing to present these documents.
