Funding Opportunity for Refugee Protection and Assistance in Brazil

Funding Opportunity for Refugee Protection and Assistance in Brazil
The U.S. Mission in Brazil, in partnership with the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM), is inviting proposals from potential NGO partners involved in refugee protection and assistance in Brazil. This funding opportunity, known as the Julia Taft Refugee Fund, aims to address one-time, low-cost gaps in refugee protection and assistance, as well as urgent needs that have not been met by larger multilateral refugee programs. It is important to note that funding for proposals submitted in response to this funding notice is not guaranteed and will depend on the availability of funds. The deadline for submitting proposals is March 1st, 2024, and they should be sent to BrasiliaPOLGrants@state.gov. In the subject line, please include the following: “Proposal for the Julia Taft Refugee Fund – [insert the name of the organization].” The maximum award amount for each proposal is $25,000. To be eligible for consideration, the most effective proposals should focus on one-time investments in infrastructure, supplies, or materials. Proposals that seek to fund ongoing NGO operations or salaries will not be prioritized. The funds are specifically intended to support projects that assist refugees or refugee returnees, with consideration given to projects that benefit both these populations and their host communities. Applicants must be registered organizations, such as NGOs, community-based organizations, or faith-based organizations. Local NGOs will be given priority, although international NGOs may also submit a proposal if they have a close partnership with a local NGO. The application package should include a proposal in English, along with an optional additional copy in Portuguese. However, please note that a proposal submitted solely in Portuguese will not be considered. The application should also include a detailed project timeline/calendar, a detailed budget in USD, proof of national registration of the organization, and the CV/Resume of the Project Manager and other key project personnel. This funding opportunity provides a chance for NGOs to make a meaningful impact in refugee protection and assistance in Brazil. By addressing one-time needs and urgent gaps, these projects can contribute to the well-being and integration of refugees and refugee returnees.
