Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust: Guidelines for Applicants

The Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust provides support to charities and charitable projects, with a focus on Merseyside and causes that benefit women, unpopular and neglected groups. If you are interested in applying for a grant, please review the following guidelines:

1. Priorities:The Trust prioritizes charities and projects that benefit economically deprived and socially excluded women, girls, young people, and families. They also support unpopular and neglected causes.

2. Merseyside:Charities and charitable projects based in, or delivered in Merseyside, particularly in the more deprived areas of the county, are given priority.

3. Holiday Fund:The Trust has a small holiday fund that provides grants for holidays and outings. This fund is specifically for charities assisting disadvantaged children and adults from Merseyside.

4. National and International:The Trust considers national charities and projects that align with their priorities, but only those with a nationwide scope or remit. They do not offer grants to local charities outside of Merseyside. Additionally, they consider projects delivered in Sub-Saharan Africa, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and projects in Palestine or supporting Palestinian refugees. These projects must be sponsored and monitored by a UK registered charity and meet specific criteria.

Grant Details:
Most grants are awarded for one year, although requests for 2 and 3 year grants will be considered. Applications are accepted only from small or medium-sized charities. Organizations that have previously received a grant must wait two years before reapplying. All requests for a further grant must be accompanied by a report on how the previous grant was utilized. The grant amounts range from £1000 to £3,000 for national and international grants, and up to £5,000 for Merseyside grants. In exceptional cases, grants may be higher. In the 2020/2021 period, the total grant amount awarded was £356,618.
