Deadlines 3 March 2024.  The World Habitat Awards, a collaboration between UN-Habitat and World Habitat, is calling for entries for its 2024 edition. This prestigious award aims to highlight exceptional projects and programs that provide innovative and sustainable housing solutions. Since its inception in 1985, the World Habitat Awards have recognized over 360 projects, each making a profound impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities through housing.

UN-Habitat firmly believes that adequate housing is the cornerstone of inclusive and sustainable urban development. It goes beyond mere shelter, encompassing security, access to services, education, employment opportunities, and a sense of belonging. The World Habitat Awards serve as a platform to showcase transformative solutions that accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The award ceremony presents Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards to the most outstanding projects and programs. The two Gold Award winners receive a trophy in recognition of their exemplary work in housing development, £10,000 in prize money, and ongoing support from World Habitat through the exChange program.

This year, the Gold Award winners are Homes For Good, a Glasgow-based organization that has raised £20 million to create affordable, high-quality homes for low-income tenants, and UrbaSEN and the Senegalese Federation of Inhabitants, a local NGO in Senegal that supports a program improving the living environment for vulnerable people in precarious neighborhoods, benefiting over 20,000 individuals.

Silver and Bronze Award winners receive a certificate, the opportunity to collaborate with World Habitat in promoting their initiatives, and membership in the World Habitat Award Winners Network.

Organizations and individuals are encouraged to nominate other deserving projects by contacting wha@world-habitat.org or sharing the information with interested parties. Entries can be submitted through the online form on the World Habitat Awards website, with a deadline of March 3, 2024.

Participating in the World Habitat Awards offers an unparalleled opportunity to showcase innovative housing solutions, contribute to sustainable urban development, and join a global network of like-minded individuals and organizations striving for positive change.
