What Are Ambizione Grants?
Ambizione grants are specifically designed for early-career researchers aspiring to lead their own independent projects at Swiss higher education institutions. These grants offer a significant opportunity for scientists, both from Switzerland and abroad, to enhance their scientific profiles and gain independence early in their careers.
Eligibility and Types of Grants
Researchers holding non-professorial academic positions can apply, making these grants accessible to a broad range of scientists. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards two types of Ambizione grants: the standard Ambizione grant, which covers both the grantee’s salary and project funds, and the Ambizione project grant, which is solely focused on project funding.
Recent Changes and Upcoming Information Sessions
It’s essential to note recent changes to the Ambizione regulations. The SNSF has now prohibited employing doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as part of these grants. As a result, the maximum amount of project funding for a four-year project duration has been reduced to 250,000 Swiss francs. For those interested, the SNSF will host an online information event on 14 August 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (Swiss time), to present the Ambizione funding scheme and answer any questions.
