Eligibility and Nomination Process

Nominations for this award must be submitted by UNESCO member states or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in an official partnership with UNESCO. Each nominating entity may submit up to three nominations. However, self-nominations are not accepted. Eligible projects are those that have been operational for at least two years and demonstrate the potential to be replicated or scaled effectively.

Key Dates and Award Ceremony

The submission deadline for nominations is set for midnight (GMT+2) on 12 May 2026. Nominators must access the online platform to submit their proposals. For access requests, they should email gweprize@unesco.org by 1 May 2026. The two laureates selected will each receive USD 50,000, which can be used to support and expand their projects aimed at improving educational prospects for girls and women. The award ceremony is scheduled for 9 October 2026, coinciding with the International Day of the Girl.
