Central Europe Media Resilience Grants Programme

Call for Applications: Central Europe Media Resilience Grants Programme
The Prague Civil Society Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the Central Europe Media Resilience Grants Programme. This funding opportunity aims to support independent media organisations in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, and Romania. The programme offers financial and technical assistance to enhance the sustainability and impact of these media outlets, enabling them to produce high-quality, fact-based, critical journalism that engages audiences and addresses important issues requiring public debate and scrutiny. Eligible applicants must be legally registered entities (for-profit or non-profit) that have been operating as independent media outlets in the aforementioned countries for at least one year. Grants are available to small and medium-sized media outlets with a strong digital presence at the national or regional level. Both established publications and newer initiatives are encouraged to apply. The grants will support projects aimed at generating revenue streams, expanding audiences, and experimenting with innovative tools and approaches to reporting and managing media organisations. Proposals that demonstrate a clear plan for sustaining the project results beyond the grant period and align with the long-term strategy of the organisation will be prioritized. Selected media outlets will receive grants ranging from €25,000 to €120,000 for a period of 12 to 24 months. In addition to financial support, grantees will have the opportunity to connect with industry experts and peers and access personalised advice on industry-specific challenges and opportunities from a network of leading media practitioners. To apply, interested parties must fill out the online application form and upload the required Project Proposal and Project Budget files. Only complete applications that adhere to the Guidelines for Grant Application will be considered. The application deadline is midnight on February 15, 2024. Proposals will be reviewed by an independent expert board, and funding decisions will be based solely on the merit of the proposal. Priority will be given to applications from organisations not currently receiving funding from other U.S. government-funded sources. The decision on awarded grants will be made by April 30, 2024, and supported projects will commence no later than July 1, 2024. For inquiries and further information, please contact the Prague Civil Society Centre at cep@praguecivilsociety.org. Online consultation meetings will also be held on January 9, 2024, and January 24, 2024, where applicants can ask questions related to procedural and technical issues regarding the submission of applications. Registration is required before the respective deadlines. This call for applications is part of the Central Europe Media Resilience Grants Programme, which aims to support and empower local actors in independent media and the civic sector in Central Europe to safeguard democratic institutions and strengthen networks of active citizens defending democratic values. The programme is made possible with the support from USAID.
