The Penal Grants Programme aims to provide support and funding to organizations that are working towards the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders. While we primarily fund registered charities, we do consider applications from organizations that are in the process of obtaining charitable status. Our focus is on smaller, grass-roots organizations, particularly those outside of London and South East England. We have moved away from funding large campaigning organizations and instead prioritize projects that prevent young people from becoming involved with crime. We offer two types of grants: one-off grants of up to £3,000 for specific projects that help maintain relationships between prisoners and their families or support the contributions of volunteers within the prison community, and grants of up to £4,000 per year over two to three years for programs or activities that require ongoing support. When assessing applications, we look for evidence of practical direct support to offenders, inclusion of former offenders as mentors or peer supporters, involvement of volunteers, and immediate and sustainable impact. We also have a strong interest in projects that address the needs of over-represented groups within the criminal justice system, such as black or minority ethnic groups, disabled or older offenders, and initiatives that aim to break down the stigma and discrimination faced by offenders. Projects that receive funding include peer support and mentoring programs, initiatives that help offenders make social connections with friends, family, or the local community, circles of support for high-risk offenders, skill-based activities through volunteering or training, and activities that benefit both offenders and local communities. To apply for funding, please send a two-page proposal outlining your project, including details on how you identified the need for your proposal, your track record in related work, and how you ensure the safety of the people you are supporting. Additionally, include supporting documents such as a budget for this and next year, a list of current funders and pending applications, and your latest annual report and accounts. Applications should be sent to: The Administrator The Noel Buxton Trust PO Box 520 Fleet GU51 9GX We welcome appeals from groups in England, Scotland, and Wales, and encourage organizations working towards the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders to apply for funding through the Penal Grants Programme.
