The Programme Specialist (Economic Opportunities) position in New Delhi, India is part of the YuWaah initiative, a global partnership known as Generation Unlimited (GENU). GENU aims to ensure that every young person aged 10-24 is engaged in some form of school, learning, training, or employment by 2030. In India, this initiative is called YuWaah, which represents catalytic partnerships to unleash the potential of adolescents and young people.
Since its launch in November 2019, YuWaah has formed alliances with various stakeholders, including the government, civil society, UN and other international organizations, the corporate sector, and young people themselves. It serves as a platform for exchanging ideas, promoting existing employment, skilling and learning initiatives, and amplifying youth aspirations and unmet needs.
The Programme Specialist (Economic Opportunities) role requires a sustained and dedicated effort to achieve the desired results in terms of creating employment opportunities for young people. Given that the issue of unemployment is deeply rooted in the country, the incumbent will need to engage in scalable models and strategic partnerships to address this challenge effectively.
To achieve the ambitious goal of connecting “100 million young people with employment opportunities by 2030,” the incumbent must establish and maintain high-level partnerships with the government and corporate sector. Additionally, the role requires developing diplomatic communication and negotiation skills to foster trusted relationships and achieve objectives.
