Request for Proposals: Protecting Internet Freedom and Digital Rights
The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), and the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) have established the Open Internet for Democracy Initiative to support digital rights advocates in protecting internet freedom. As part of this initiative, a small grant opportunity is available for local private sector or civil society organizations.

The selected advocacy projects will focus on addressing specific laws, policies, or tactics that hinder democratic engagement in the digital space. Preference will be given to applicants operating in countries experiencing high levels of decline in digital rights and internet freedom.

Potential projects could include convening multi-stakeholder dialogues to examine the human rights implications of emerging technologies, identifying digital rights gaps in the development or implementation of new laws or policies, or exploring the social and economic impacts of internet disruptions in a particular country or region.

To apply for this opportunity, please email submission materials to msheikh@cipe.org. Submissions are due by December 31, 2023, at 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Applications should include a proposal narrative (Microsoft Word document) and a proposed budget (Excel document) submitted via email.

Selection criteria will include eligibility requirements, a proven track record of engaging in digital rights advocacy, articulation of how the project addresses specific tactics or policies that erode digital rights, potential impact of the advocacy initiative, and a desire and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders throughout the project.

For more information and to access the application, please visit the CIPE website.
