Overview for WRI India Operations

The WRI Operations team plays a crucial role in supporting the front-line work of the organization. They directly interact and work with clients, government agencies, statutory bodies, trustees, vendors, and consultants to field inquiries, provide support, and solve problems. The team ensures that WRI programs can be implemented smoothly, allowing researchers to develop high-quality research documents and plans. The WRI Operations team encompasses various functions, including budget and finance, accounting and reporting, legal counsel, human resources, IT, and facilities management. Each function reports to the Director of Operations, who in turn reports to the CEO of the organization. The team strives for operational excellence across all functions, from recruitment and retention to managing WRI’s staff and facilities.

About Your Role

WRI India is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual to report directly to the Director of Operations. In this role, you will provide legal advice and guidance at the senior levels of WRI, with a focus on legal and reputation risk. Your primary responsibility will be to provide legal support to WRI India’s operations and development activities. You will play an integral part in the development and implementation of WRI India’s strategy and operations. Knowledge of FCRA compliances, company law, and trust laws is essential for this role.

How Your Day Will Unfold

Contracts Management (50%):

  • Process documentation for agreements, contracts, sub-grants, work authorizations, and purchase orders
  • Monitor performance against contract requirements
  • Create procurement guidelines for the program team
  • Work with partners to ensure compliance with sub-grant and contract requirements
  • Maintain supporting reports for contracts and sub-grants
  • Process invoices and payments for partners in compliance with WRI’s policies
  • Provide guidance to partner organizations and consultants to ensure compliance with funder policies

Financial Management (20%):

  • Update and maintain project budgets using WRI’s budgeting and forecasting software (TM1)
  • Work closely with the operations team to maintain budget accuracy and minimize variance
  • Coordinate with accounting, payments, HR, and other program teams
  • Support ad hoc financial expenditures for outreach, communication/engagement, and delivery efforts
  • Ensure team compliance with grant and contract agreements
