Call for Applications: Supporting Independent Media: Indo-Pacific Media Advancement Program
Internews, in partnership with the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) and Doublethink Lab (DTL), is inviting independent media organizations from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific regions to apply for the Indo-Pacific Media Advancement Program (IPMAP). This program, funded by the US Department of State, aims to address the challenges faced by independent media in the Indo-Pacific, such as growing authoritarianism, closing civic space, and declining revenue sources. The IPMAP program has been designed to strengthen the capacity of media outlets and journalists in the region by providing support and innovative solutions. The specific objectives of the program include increasing the understanding of prevalent mis and disinformation narratives, strengthening the capacity of media organizations and journalists to develop sustainable business strategies, improving the quality and quantity of published information and news, and providing resources and equipment to enhance content production. Up to 30 media organizations from the target countries will be selected to participate in the program. Selected organizations will receive grants of up to USD $20,000 to support organizational strengthening efforts and will have access to advice, mentoring, and internship programs. They will also benefit from content sharing agreements with leading regional news outlets and receive resources and tools for digital security and mobile journalism. Additionally, high-level capacity building training and mentoring will be provided to journalists on fact-checking, pre-bunking, debunking disinformation, and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) investigations. Media organizations interested in this opportunity should submit an Expression of Interest, including information about their organization’s history, strategy, current business plan, media work, and justification for how the grant will benefit their organization. The selection process will be based on criteria such as the legal status of the organization, commitment to professional and ethical standards of journalism, and relevance to the target regions. For more information and to submit an Expression of Interest, please visit the Internews website. Don’t miss this opportunity to strengthen your organization and contribute to independent media in the Indo-Pacific region.
Please submit your application to email IP-MAP-Apply@internews.org on or before the 15th January 2024
