Introduction to the Global Access Fund
The Global Access Fund (GAF) was established to enhance the accessibility of research outputs across the world. This initiative aims to provide essential support for organizations in regions currently underrepresented within the global open science infrastructure landscape. Funded by a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the GAF is part of the DataCite Global Access Program (GAP), designed to foster inclusive participation in scientific research.
Scope of Funding
The GAF allocates funding to projects that focus on two primary areas: outreach and engagement activities, and open infrastructure development. By offering financial support of up to €10,000 for outreach and up to €20,000 for infrastructure development, the fund encourages efforts such as training for research administrators on open infrastructure fundamentals, hosting webinars and workshops, as well as the creation of innovative outreach resources in various languages.
Eligibility and Application Process
Non-profit representatives within the research ecosystem from lower and middle-income countries can apply for funding. This includes research institutions, associations, and government bodies based in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. Applications are open until October 11, 2024, and organizations can submit a maximum of two applications for different funding categories. Preference will be given to new organizations and projects, promoting a diverse array of initiatives aimed at connecting local solutions with global scientific infrastructure.
