Apply Now: German-Northern European Fellowship Opportunities

Overview of the German-Northern European Fellowship

The German-Northern European Fellowship is an initiative designed to foster dialogue between Germany and the Nordic and Baltic states. Launched in 2000, this programme initially brought together the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. In 2015, it expanded to include Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and cultural insights.

Reasons to Apply

There is a growing interest in the political systems and social developments in Northern Europe among Germans. In return, Northern Europeans and Balts are increasingly drawn to Germany, viewing it as a significant trading partner and a cultural inspiration. The fellowship, which offers up to 22 positions, enables participants to experience this exchange first-hand. Fellows from the Nordic and Baltic states will spend time at a German editorial office, while German fellows will travel to the Nordic and Baltic countries.

Programme Benefits

The programme begins with an introductory conference in one of the capitals, offering participants the chance to engage with key figures in politics, business, and society. Through discussions on current topics, journalists will deepen their understanding of German-Northern European-Baltic cooperation. Following their international experiences, fellows will reunite in Berlin for a closing event to discuss their findings and explore future collaborative research.
