Introduction to Grantmaking
The Asia Foundation is committed to enhancing social, economic, and political experiences across Asia and the Pacific through strategic grantmaking. Our methodology is rooted in collaboration, emphasizing problem identification and strategic planning with various organizations. This approach is driven by 70 years of experience and deep local knowledge in key programmatic areas.
Focus Areas of Grant Support
The Asia Foundation concentrates its efforts on several vital themes, including governance, economic growth, education and leadership, environmental sustainability, international cooperation, and women’s empowerment. By focusing on these areas, we aim to support initiatives that not only align with our interests but also have the potential for wide-ranging impact.
Application Process for Grants
To apply for a grant, prospective applicants should follow a three-phase process. First, it’s important to review the Asia Foundation’s program areas to ensure the project aligns with our current interests. Next, submit a brief letter of inquiry to the appropriate office detailing your organization and project concept. After this initial communication, our staff will evaluate whether the project fits our grantmaking priorities, potentially leading to a formal proposal request. Note that the foundation primarily provides grants to organizations within Asia and the Pacific and does not fund individuals or U.S.-based entities.
