Applications for the William T. Grant Foundation Research Grants on Reducing Inequality are open until 29 July 2026, 3:00 PM EST. Eligible U.S. organizations can apply for funding between $25,000–$600,000 to support studies that reduce inequality in youth outcomes (ages 5–25).

Funding Agency: William T. Grant Foundation

Grant Types:

Major Research Grants: $100,000–$600,000 over 2–3 years (up to 15% indirect costs).

Officers’ Research Grants: $25,000–$50,000 over 1–2 years (up to 15% indirect costs).

Focus: Programs, policies, or practices that reduce inequality in academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes for U.S. youth ages 5–25.

Eligibility: Only tax-exempt organizations (not individuals). Strong encouragement for proposals from HBCUs, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges, Alaska Native-Serving Institutions, Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions, and AANAPISIs

Research Priorities
Funded Studies:

Descriptive studies explaining how programs/policies reduce inequality.

Intervention studies providing causal evidence of effectiveness.

Not Funded:

  • Studies focused primarily on physical health outcomes.
  • Studies only describing causes/consequences of inequality without testing solutions.
  • Dimensions of Inequality: Race, ethnicity, economic standing, sexual/gender minority status (LGBTQ+ youth), language minority status, immigrant origins.

Application Guidelines
Applicants must:

  • Identify a specific inequality in youth outcomes.
  • Provide a theory of change explaining how the program/policy/practice reduces inequality.
  • Use rigorous methods (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed).
  • Demonstrate feasibility with realistic staffing, timeframe, and resources.
  • Show how findings will inform policy and practice.
