ICMR NIRMAN-AT Grant 2026 – The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited proposals to establish Centres for Advanced Research under its National Initiative for Reliable Medical Device Development and Assessment Network – Assistive Technology (NIRMAN–AT).
The initiative aims to accelerate the development, testing and translation of affordable, reliable and accessible assistive technologies for Indian users.
Funding Available
Selected Centres for Advanced Research may receive up to ₹15 crore per centre for a maximum period of five years.
Proposals should cover a coordinated portfolio of approximately five to eight assistive technologies, with a clear development and translation roadmap. Funding focuses on product development, clinical testing, validation and assessment. Major new infrastructure creation is not supported.
Priority Areas
The call covers technologies including:
- Mobility, transfer and accessibility devices.
- Prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Vision and accessible-information technologies.
- Hearing and communication assistance.
- Self-care, safety and independent-living technologies.
- Other assistive technologies, including digital and AI-enabled solutions.
Who Can Apply?
The call is open to investigators from institutions eligible for ICMR extramural research support. The Principal Investigator must be a regular faculty member or scientist with substantial relevant experience in health-technology development, clinical or rehabilitation research, biomedical engineering or a related field.
Applicants must demonstrate a multidisciplinary team, access to intended users and suitable clinical or evaluation facilities, relevant technology-development experience and institutional commitment to sustain the research programme.
This is a specialised research-centre call, not a general-purpose NGO grant. NGOs and community organisations may be considered as collaborators where appropriate, but should confirm their role with an eligible lead institution.
