The International Climate Initiative (IKI), funded by the German government, has announced its upcoming IKI Large Grants Call 2026. The programme supports ambitious international projects addressing climate change and biodiversity loss.
Funding Available
Individual projects may receive funding ranging from €7 million to €15 million. This is a large-scale funding programme intended for substantial projects with clear environmental and climate impacts.
Funding Priorities
The 2026 call will cover nine thematic priorities across four broad areas:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Adapting to the impacts of climate change.
- Conserving and restoring natural carbon sinks.
- Conserving biological diversity.
The announced thematic priorities include mobilising private-sector investment for climate adaptation, strengthening action against illegal deforestation, and advancing integrated climate and biodiversity governance and finance.
Who Can Apply?
The call is intended for organisations capable of implementing large-scale international climate and biodiversity projects. NGOs and civil society organisations should review the official eligibility rules, country requirements, partnership arrangements and financial conditions when the complete call documents are released.
The programme is not a small-grant scheme for routine NGO activities. Applicants should assess whether they have the technical expertise, institutional capacity and partnerships required for a project of this scale.

Deadline for project outlines: 9 February 2027, 2:00 pm CET
