The Marr-Munning Trust: Empowering Communities Through Charitable Giving

Posted on April 11, 2024April 11, 2024 By admin No Comments on The Marr-Munning Trust: Empowering Communities Through Charitable Giving

The Marr-Munning Trust: A Legacy of Charitable Giving

The Marr-Munning Trust, founded in 1970 by Frank Harcourt-Munning and Sir Leslie Marr, is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting projects that provide overseas aid for the relief of poverty, suffering, and distress. Frank Harcourt-Munning, a philanthropist, had a lifelong commitment to charitable causes and had previously held much of his property in trust for this purpose.

With the establishment of the Marr-Munning Trust, Frank Harcourt-Munning transferred all his assets, including his own home and spare cash, into the trust. He dedicated the remaining years of his life to running the trust until his passing in 1985.

Geographic Focus and Program Areas

The Marr-Munning Trust focuses its grant-making efforts on charitable projects in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. While organizations can be based anywhere, funding is exclusively provided for work conducted in these regions.

The trust’s program areas primarily revolve around education and livelihoods. By supporting initiatives that promote education and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities, the trust aims to empower individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty and improve their quality of life.

Eligibility and Application Process

The main grants program of the Marr-Munning Trust is open to registered charities or not-for-profit entities with annual incomes ranging from £25,000 to £1,000,000. However, the trust does not accept unsolicited applications for funding.

To submit a proposal, organizations must be invited to do so. The trust identifies potential grantees through various means, including their own research, recommendations from current or past grantees, and collaborations with other funders. Organizational profiles can also be submitted through the trust’s website during the designated submission period, which is typically from April 1st to May 1st each year.
