Sahel, Middle East & Horn of Africa Scholarships
About the Programme
Horn of Africa Scholarships -The IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Programme, supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offers a limited number of scholarships aimed at building capacity and strengthening networks of water professionals across the Sahel, Middle East, and Horn of Africa.
These scholarships are designed to empower students from eligible countries to pursue advanced studies in Water and Sustainable Development, while contributing to knowledge-sharing and regional collaboration.
Scholarship Coverage
- Full Scholarships: Cover tuition fees, insurance, international travel, and a monthly living allowance of €1,220 for accommodation and daily expenses.
- Partial Scholarships: Candidates with partial funding from employers, private sources, or other scholarships may apply for complementary support.

Research & Participation
Scholarship recipients must:
- Conduct MSc research in their home country/region, linked to projects supported by the programme.
- Actively participate in seminars organized by the programme’s learning networks.
- Contribute to strengthening water sector capacities and knowledge relevant to the focus regions.
Eligible Countries
- Middle East: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen
- Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda
- Sahel: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development
- Living or working in one of the eligible countries
- Commitment to conduct MSc research in home country/region
- Active participation in programme seminars
- Agreement to return to country of origin or priority country after graduation
Employer Statement Requirement: One recommendation letter must be from your current employer, on official letterhead, dated and signed, confirming:
- How your new skills will benefit the organization
- That you will return after completing the MSc
- Any involvement in projects funded by the Water and Development Partnership Programme
Selection Criteria
- Priority given to female candidates
- Strong motivation (5 motivation questions in application)
- Solid academic background
- Relevant work experience preferred
- Candidates with co‑funding from other sources may receive additional consideration
Application Process
No separate scholarship form is required. Eligible applicants are automatically considered after receiving academic admission.
